Everyone knows with fame comes responsibility; however, the more influencers grow in popularity, the more their privacy seems to dissipate as they are tossed into the world of stardom. Because of this, it’s become increasingly prevalent for social media influencers and Twitch streamers to get doxxed, hacked, swatted, and even stalked in real life.
So it’s easy to assume being a famous content creator leads to a fantastic life, but there are implicit dangers and risks that come with the job.In a recent The New York Times article detailing the double-edged reality of streaming on Twitch and being a figure to millions of viewers, Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa spoke out about her life on Twitch and the stalker drama that arose because of her fame.
Amouranth Opens Up About Her Stalker Drama
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” That Oscar Wilde quote seemingly encapsulates most scenarios streamers undergo when dealing with stalkers. Because most of the time, Twitch creators’ lives are captured directly on streams or videos on other social media platforms, it allows viewers to follow them intensively.

So one can only imagine the possibilities of a warped mind where some viewers would want to imitate aspects, experience an identical livelihood, and, in worst cases, be part of their favorite streamer’s life by stalking them. But, unfortunately, it’s not impossible; instead, it's seemingly omnipresent.
Last 15th June 2022, Twitch streamer, Amouranth revealed a shocking string of events involving an Estonian man who reportedly sold all his belongings and moved to Houston, Texas, where he stalked her for at least 44 days. Later, the stalker attempted t break into her home before being apprehended and removed from Houston by local police.

In an interview with The New York Post, Amouranth was asked a question about her stalkers and the reason she thought these malicious people continued to harass her. She said, “In live streams, they see into your home, into your bedroom, and it feels very personal with them.” Amouranth continued, “I think that is what contributes to a lot of the stalking: They feel like they know you.”
Amouranth’s a massively-influencing content creator who, after the stalker and harassment incidents, had to tighten her security for her safety. The Twitch streamer has bought guns, installed security cameras, and got a guard dog named Bear. Amouranth’s been swatted multiple times over, so often, the police check her streams to see if she’s livestreaming or not when they get a call.
It’s crazy to see how far people will go for their obsessive impulses. Amouranth has even gone so far as to hire security guards to keep her safe, especially given that previous stalkers would visit her home. Now, Amouranth feels like she’s done so much at this point to keep stalkers away. “I don’t know what else to do at this point besides build a moat with crocodiles,” the Twitch superstar said.
It’s unfortunate to see incidents like these happening to streamers on Twitch, especially ones who, quite simply, just want to produce content and entertain others. Unfortunately, until now, stalkers and other acts of harassment continue to happen, and it’s vile.
Amouranth’s been able to fortify her home and protect herself from those who wish to harm her, but who can say others might not be so opportune? In the end, Twitch streamers, at the cost of fame, have to deal with the brutal reality that not every fan only means to praise or worship their idol. Some are twisted enough to want to harass and go beyond boundaries.
